In response to article: Rekindling family links interesting article. William Hannigan was one of 7 children to Daniel and Helen Hannigan who settled in Drummond, Victoria. One of the siblings was james, from whom i am descended. Quite a few stayed - or returned - in central victoria. Another ( Thomas) took his branch of the family to South Africa where it still exists. i'd be interested in making contact with the other branches. |

In response to article: Knox and Downs: demolish or preserve? From the tone of the message the writer (anonymous!!!) doesn't live in Wilcannia. I have for the last 7 years and my experience of living here is far from the comments made by "Anonymous". It is comments such as his, as I believe uninformed comments, passed on to tourists and those passing through that creates "scared" tourist afraid to stop. Let people make up their own minds from their own experiences... Hundreds (literally) have now signed petitions to retain the structure in some form. That is too many to ignore. |

In response to article: School to Work Expo I am formally from Broken Hill, my name, Maureen Olsen, formally Arthur. I live in the USA and love to hear of the work of the School to Work program there. I worked for 15 years with the program over here, and nine of those years specifically with the Navajo Youth on the Navajo Reservation. It is indeed a rewarding program and I was in the ground breaking basically of the program when it was introduced over here. My position was as a counselor and I set up school to work career days for the middle and high schools, found employment during the summer months on the reservation for Navajo youth, and did career counseling with high school students, as well as the usual additional counseling responsibilities, for Anglo, Native American and Hispanic students. It is one of the best programs the Education program has introduced into the schools. I wish all the best to all of you who serve the youth in Broken Hill and surrounding areas. If any would like to contact me, my email is mannearthur@yahoo.com. I welcome any questions or comments on your program. |

In response to article: Big weekend for local football Congratulations to David Sedunary and his hard working committee to enable the Jube to be restored to her prior glory. On the St Pat's weekend, David gave me a "cooks" tour of what was happening and now the culmination of all the effort is an icon to Broken Hill. Well Done Sprigger and everyone involved B.Edd |
